Went on a date to the drive-in last wednesday, the first time Frankie's ever been. I haven't been to one since I was about 12, nor were they a big part of my childhood, but I've always loved them and don't know why we don't go more often. Nobody kicking your seat, no screaming infants and you get to sit all wrapped in a woolly blanket drinking beers and eating whatever you feel like bringing. We even thought ahead and brought a cooler and nutritional yeast and hot sauce for the popcorn. Next time we just need a car with bench seats.
Weird to start watching a movie at 8 o'clock and have it still light out.
Every night's a double feature (for only $6.75 each!) and we thought for sure one crappy movie would be enough, but after the first one we were actually psyched for round two. Went for a quick beer run and made it back just in time.

What, no dancing condiments? The Westwind Capitol Drive-In down in San Jose has been around since 1971 and definitely looks it, which only adds to the charm. Getting there is super easy (its on Capitol Expressway and Snell Ave off the 87) and the drive only took us an hour. They're open every night with the first film starting around 8 and there's bound to be a mix of trash and horror (you can check the listings on sfgate) so go for one and stay for both.
