Found out about an old boat yard up in Rodeo that was selling off its accumulation from the last half a decade. Didn't quite know what to expect, but we were pretty sure it'd at least make for an interesting afternoon. When we got there we learned that the place had opened in the 30's as Joseph's Resort and managed to stay a sweet little business until just a few years ago, renting out boats and kayaks and whatnot along with (I think) a little restaurant and other boaty services. The lady we talked to said her uncle Lewis owned it and had been managing it forever until dementia started in and the place was pretty much run into the ground. Then came the squatters and fires and eventually everything was boarded up until now, as they're trying to clean the place up and maybe sell the land for use as a city park. Turns out they also own the Warehouse Cafe and the Burlington Hotel, two of our favorite places in one of our favorite out-of-towning places, Port Costa. Think haunted bedrooms, a taxidermied polar bear and 400 types of beer (and that's just the parts we're allowed to mention).

And you may ask yourself? Keep an eye out on Craigslist as they'll probably be opening up the boathouse a few more times before everything goes to the dump. The old Joseph's Resort is right on the water at 1 Pacific Avenue in Rodeo, which is up off the 80 near Hercules and Pinole and the refinery where the Zodiak Killer might have worked if you think he might have been who the book, the movie and pretty much everyone else thinks he might have been.
