Woke up late last Sunday to more gray drizzle and figured there wasn't much fun to be had in the great outdoors. Headed down to Daly City instead for a little old folks action, the old lunch-and-bowling combination. Val's is great because there's never many people there in the afternoon time and you can eat in the lounge by the fireplace while ogling the unclad painted ladies on the wall. There's also great paintings of ships and mountains, but we're particularly fond of those ladies.
Definitely steakhouse-style diner food, but most of its really tasty and they haven't made a disappointing tuna melt yet. Plus, its still pretty cheap and you can't beat leatherette booths and a fireplace.
So many good paintings.
Got nice and full (and a little bit toasty) and made the 100 yard dash over to Serra Bowl.
Somehow we always forget that Sunday is child day and there's always a million six year olds having birthday parties and monopolizing the place. It wouldn't be so bad, except they don't open the bar until 4 p.m. which is utter hell if you get there at three and don't have any particular love for rugrats. Fought our way to the air hockey table and managed to have a mini tournament with some shorties who weren't half bad, despite being there for one of the ubiquitous birthday parties.
Ready.
Go. I love bowling.
Even found myself a pair of bowling shoes at Thrifttown. Must be lucky as I was able to beat Franklin two out of three, despite his myriad of strikes. Maybe its still the clover.

Wanna be a bowler? Serra Bowl's down off the 280, if you're coming from the city you'll take the Eastmoor exit and then cross back over the freeway by In-N-Out and Krispy Kreme (also fine dining choices). You can also take BART and get off at the Colma stop (I think) and walk over the bridge to the parking lot. Serra Bowl used to have lots of fun specials, mostly week nights, but it appears that rates have gone up and weekends are definitely the high season. If you do go and you want real food and a drink or two, Val's is just down the road on Junipero Serra and they're open for brunch, lunch and dinner (early-bird and otherwise).
